College Awards

The Grail Award was inaugurated in 1971 to recognise the contribution of the Grail (an international Christian lay-women's movement) which was instrumental in establishing the former St Raphael's all-women's College, and for their service to the education of young women in North Queensland from 1964 to 1999. It is awarded to one or more outstanding young women from within the College.

St Paul's College was originally established in 1969 and was managed by the Franciscan Friars (a Catholic Order of Priests and religious Brothers) for the next twenty-one years. The Franciscan Award was established to recognise the contribution of the Franciscan Congregation to the education of young men in North Queensland. It is awarded to one or more outstanding young residents (male or female) within the College.

The Grail and Franciscan Awards are presented each year at the Valedictory Dinner to residents who have shown outstanding community spirit or made other significant contributions to the functioning of the College throughout the current year.

In 2014 a new Award was established - the St Mary MacKillop Award - which acknowledges Australia's first saint and namesake of the St Mary MacKillop Wing.  She is attributed to have said "Never see a need without doing something about it" and it is awarded to one or more outstanding young residents (male or female) who have shown outstanding commitment to the pastoral care of residents.

In 2022 we also created a new award - The O-Ghosh Award - which is named after the Inaugural recipient of the Award Ms Aneesha Ghosh. Aneesha took up the role of Residential Assistant in her 2nd year at Saints, then a Senior Residential Assistant in her 3rd year and then Residential Supervisor role in her 4th year with Saints Catholic College. She continues in the role for 2023 and the award is in recognition of the immense effort and dedication she has given over her years of service to Saints. The award will be presented to a member of the Pastoral Care team with a minimum of 2 years of service who has shown an equal level of dedication and care to residents during their time at Saints.
