International Students

I am coming to the College as part of a group. What paperwork do I have to complete?

Your group will arrange all necessary documentation directly with the University's Accommodation Office and International Office.

I am an international student. How do I apply for a place at the College?

You are strongly encouraged to contact the JCU International Office to discuss your particular needs in regards to applying to study at the University.

Will the accommodation paperwork be sent to me before I arrive in Australia?

You will receive an email from the College advising you of the offer of accommodation and the process to be followed. You will be able to pay and enrol on-line.

How will I pay? Do you accept all credit cards?

We accept most credit cards except AMEX and Diner's Club.

What fees/payments do I have to attend to before arriving?

You will be advised of these in your letter of offer.

What other documents do I need to bring? Eg photo etc

You need to upload a head and shoulder photo of yourself when you enrol on-line.

Some of my friends are going to live at other colleges/halls on-campus? Can they buy a meal plan so they can eat with me in the Saints Catholic College dining room?

Residences on campus at JCU do not have meal plans like those operating in the USA. The JCU affiliated Colleges, such as Saints Catholic College, provide meals only for current residents of their College. Guests can receive a meal but they must be signed in by a current resident and they must pay for the meal eg a resident of Saints Catholic College cannot eat for free at another College or Hall and vice versa.

I am arriving before Orientation week. Can I move into the College as soon as I arrive in Townsville?

Yes. Just email us with your details and we will have your room ready for you. You will be charged at the normal accommodation rate for the period prior to the start of your contract.

Will someone meet me at the airport or do I need to find my own transport on arrival?

The JCU International Student Centre arranges airport pick-ups for international students. You should contact them directly and request this service. You should tell them your day, date and time of arrival as well as your airline and flight number.

What's the climate like? What type of clothes will I need?

Townsville's climate is tropical. If you are arriving in February you will need light summer clothes. An umbrella is also a good idea as this is the time of the wet season and unpredictable heavy downpours. If you are arriving in July for a second semester start the weather is usually dry and sunny with cool nights and mild days. Light jackets or long-sleeved shirts etc are recommended.
